A baker supports the baking team by assisting in the preparation, baking, and presentation of baked goods. This role involves learning baking techniques, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and ensuring high-quality standards are met consistently.
Key Responsibilities
- Baking and Preparation:
- Assist in preparing doughs, batters, fillings, icings, and other baked good components according to recipes and specifications.
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately to create high-quality baked products.
- Operate baking equipment, such as ovens, mixers, and dough sheeters, safely and efficiently.
- Product Quality and Consistency:
- Ensure all baked goods meet the bakery's quality standards for taste, texture, and appearance.
- Assist in the decoration and presentation of baked items, such as cakes, pastries, and breads.
- Monitor baking times and temperatures to achieve consistent results.
- Inventory and Stock Management:
- Assist in maintaining inventory levels of baking ingredients and supplies.
- Report low stock levels and assist with inventory replenishment.
- Properly label and store ingredients and finished products to maintain freshness and quality.
- Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Clean baking equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after use.
- Assist in routine maintenance and cleaning of ovens and other baking equipment.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior bakers and kitchen staff to complete daily production schedules.
- Assist in the coordination of baking activities to meet customer demands.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a bakery or food production environment is advantageous but not required.
- Skills:
- Basic understanding of baking techniques and ingredients.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes precisely.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced bakers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Capability to lift and carry heavy bags of flour and other baking ingredients (up to 50 pounds).
- Manual dexterity to operate baking equipment and handle delicate products.
Work Environment
- Typically works in a bakery or commercial kitchen setting.
- Exposure to varying temperatures from ovens and freezers.
- May require early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
