Job Summary
Please note this position is based in the Middle East.
We are seeking an experienced Process Control Engineer with a strong background in refining, oil and gas plants, and petrochemical industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to handle process activities, including studies, design modifications, plant mass balance validation, and performance optimization. They will also demonstrate proficiency in industry codes and standards (API, ISO, ASME) and have experience in metering systems and process safety activities, such as HAZOP and risk assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage process activities such as studies, design modifications, and the development of simulation models for operating facilities.
- Review and validate plant mass balances and check plant performance to ensure it aligns with design parameters.
- Identify and implement operational optimization opportunities to improve plant efficiency and reduce costs.
- Use software simulation tools such as HYSYS and Promax to support process activities and decision-making.
- Provide technical direction and support to both in-Kingdom and out-of-Kingdom design contractors.
- Develop and implement long-term strategies aimed at improving operations, reducing costs, and enhancing plant performance.
- Lead teams of engineers during the shutdown and start-up phases of existing plants, ensuring safety and operational effectiveness.
- Review work performed outside of Saudi Arabia for conformance to Saudi Aramco conditions and existing installations, recommending necessary modifications when required.
- Coordinate and support the services required for projects, such as drafting, surveying, materials take-off, requisitioning, and clerical services.
- Develop cost estimates for engineering labor, equipment, and materials based on preliminary design data and prepare expenditure requests.
- Assist other engineers in solving problems outside their specialty, and conduct studies related to equipment development, procurement, or adaptation.
- Review and interpret the application of codes, standards, operating procedures, and safety instructions, ensuring compliance with industry norms.
- Develop engineering, material, and equipment specifications, and resolve engineering problems while applying accepted principles and standards.
- Support proposals for new construction, modifications, or equipment maintenance by developing solutions based on operating requirements, process considerations, and economic factors.
- Oversee the construction progress of assigned projects, ensuring conformance to engineering requirements, and recommend or confirm design changes and substitutions.
- Ensure that project costs remain within budget, justifying any overrun where necessary.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (advanced professional degrees preferred).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience within refining, oil and gas plants, or petrochemical industries.
- Strong proficiency in industry codes and standards such as API, ISO, and ASME.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly in the field of metering systems.
- Experience in process safety-related activities, including HAZOP and risk assessments, is preferred.
- Skills:
- Expertise in process design, modifications, and optimization in operating facilities.
- Experience using simulation software like HYSYS and Promax.
- Ability to develop, review, and validate mass balances and plant performance.
- Knowledge of cost estimation, material requisitioning, and project management.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of leading and coordinating teams of engineers.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Familiarity with construction progress inspections and ensuring conformance with engineering requirements.
