assistant for the Life Skills – PE component - Starting date Jan 2025
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join our Life Skills department. The ideal candidate will work closely with their mentor teacher, Departmental Heads, Principal, be able to work independently and requires minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting the mentor teacher: Support the physical education teacher by helping to prepare lesson plans, setting up equipment, and ensuring that all materials are available for the day's activities.
2. Supervising learners: Monitor and oversee learners during PE classes to ensure a safe environment. Provide guidance and help manage learners’ behaviour, reinforcing positive attitudes and respect among participants.
3. Conducting Activities: Help conduct physical activities and exercises under the guidance of the mentor teacher. Offer hands-on assistance during activities to ensure that learners effectively participate and engage.
4. Individual Support: Provide additional support to learners who may require extra assistance, whether due to individual educational needs or physical limitations. Adapt activities as needed to ensure inclusivity.
5. Safety Management: Ensure that all safety protocols are observed. Be vigilant about potential hazards and maintain awareness of learners’ health, acting swiftly should any issue arise.
6. Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining records of learners’ progress, attendance, and participation. Help in documenting any incidents or notable achievements during PE classes.
7. Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and storage of sports equipment, ensuring everything is in good condition and ready for use.
8. Promoting Physical Fitness: Encourage a positive attitude towards physical activity and healthy living. Help foster an environment where learners feel motivated to participate and improve their fitness levels.
9. Communication: Facilitate effective communication between learners, teachers, and parents regarding learner’s progress and any concerns related to physical education activities.
10. Professional Development: Stay informed about the latest trends and strategies in physical education to bring fresh, effective ideas into the classroom. Participate in training sessions as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Holds a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Foundation Phase/ Currently in the process of completing a degree.
- SACE/ provisionally registered.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with team members.
- Computer literate and excellent time management skills.
- Good Interpersonal/People/Emotional Intelligence Skills
