Job Title: Live-in Companion for Neurodivergent Adult – Sea Point
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, and energetic live-in companion to support a wonderful 52-year-old autistic woman. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and supporting autistic individuals, as well as knowledge and training in the field of psychology.
Main Purpose of the job:
To offer company and personalised guidance and support, in daily activities and living. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure, long-term source of support are of the utmost importance.
The candidate will be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy and thereafter receive personalised support from a registered counsellor for up to 4-6 weeks, working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Job Objectives:
• Becoming a core member of the multi-disciplinary team to support her individual needs if and when needed.
• Providing daily companionship and emotional support for her.
• Managing and planning weekly activities that are both stimulating and enjoyable.
• Facilitating basic hygiene and health maintenance – reminding and encouraging bath time, daily walks and healthy eating.
• Support and scaffolding for her regulation needs (lessening any uncertainty and anxiety).
• To carry out duties such as facilitating daily and therapeutic activities and taking her on outings and to appointments.
• Facilitating and planning creative stimulating and leisure activities using a client-led approach.
• Supporting the understanding of her individual difference sensory profile, and executive functioning (i.e. assisting with creating a routine with the use of visual aids).
General Requirements:
• A valid driver’s license, driving experience and a clean driving record– Essential.
• Basic English language skills – Essential.
• Computer fluency – Essential.
Job-Related work experience:
• Previous experience in a role supporting neurodivergent individuals - Essential.
• Previous experience in the field of psychology – Essential.
• Familiarity with Autistic and/or Neurodivergent Adults – Essential.
• Previous experience in facilitation and life skills training – Desirable.
Job-Related Knowledge:
• Familiarity with low arousal, client-led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.
• Knowledge of alternative communication tools and experience in supporting communication.
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to building a trusting, supportive relationship with her.
• Ability to guide and support in both structured and unstructured environments, balancing life skill teaching, support and fun.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the family and other support systems.
• Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to the client’s needs and schedule.
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in psychology, and related fields.
Job-Related Skills:
• Able to assist with planning and implementing daily activities with her using a creative and flexible approach abilities – Essential.
• Ability to minimise stress and anxiety by utilising a low arousal approach - Essential.
• Strong verbal communication skills with the client and her support team – Essential.
• Organisational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure, strong time management imperative - Essential.
• Social and life skills – Essential.
• Relationship-building skills – Essential.
Benefits:
Working hours:
• Monday to Sunday: 24 Hour care (Bi-weekly)
Salary Range:
· R 20 000 + per month
· Salary negotiable depending on qualifications and previous experience.
· Reimbursement of travel cost at AA rates.
· 3 month trial period before deciding on a permanent contract.
