Job Title: Junior Research Analyst – Finance & Stock Market Focus
About the Client:
Our client is a dynamic and rapidly growing company in the investments industry, committed to providing insightful, data-driven market analysis and innovative investment strategies. They are seeking a sharp, driven, and passionate junior Research Analyst to join their team, with a particular focus on stock market research, financial modelling, and analysis of financial statements.
Position Overview:
The Research Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the investment research team by conducting in-depth financial analysis, building and maintaining financial models, and evaluating the performance of companies through rigorous examination of financial statements. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in finance and Excel to provide valuable insights that inform investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct fundamental research on stocks and companies, analyzing financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) to assess financial health, performance trends, and valuation.
- Build and maintain sophisticated financial models (DCF, comparables, etc.) to forecast company performance and stock price targets.
- Monitor market developments and company news to provide timely updates and actionable insights to the team.
- Prepare and present research reports, summaries, and recommendations for internal stakeholders or clients.
- Use advanced Excel skills to perform financial analysis, data manipulation, and create clear, accurate financial models.
- Assist in the preparation of investment presentations and due diligence reports.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, stock market movements, and key financial indicators to support decision-making.
- Support senior analysts and portfolio managers with ad hoc analysis and project work.
What Our Client is Looking For:
- A recent graduate with a background in finance, accounting, or financial management. A degree in a relevant field such as BCom in Management Sciences, Accounting, or Finance is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of financial statements and financial analysis techniques.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modelling, complex data manipulation, pivot tables, etc.).
- A passion for stocks, financial markets, and a strong interest in tracking and analyzing market trends.
- Basic understanding or hands-on experience in financial modelling (e.g., DCF, Comparable Company Analysis).
- Ideally, 1-2 years of experience, or in the process of studying towards the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) qualification (Level I or II).
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- A proactive attitude, with a strong desire to learn and grow within the finance industry.
Location: Office based in Cape Town and London but this is a fully remote work for a company based in the UK.
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent. Working hours 9am-6pm SA time.
Salary: R20 000-R30 000 per month.
