Job Title: Assistant Payroll Accountant
Reporting to: Payroll Manager / Payroll Accountant
Location: Cape Town
Job Purpose:
The Assistant Payroll Accountant supports the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related financial transactions. The role works closely with payroll and finance teams to ensure payroll data is correctly recorded, reconciled, and reported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with reconciling payroll accounts with the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of payroll transactions.
- Support the payroll team in ensuring correct payroll processing, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and taxes.
- Participate in internal and external audits by providing relevant payroll accounting documentation and explanations.
- Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees, offering clear and accurate information regarding payroll accounting matters.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Working towards or holding a degree in Finance (BCom or equivalent).
- 1-2 years of experience in payroll accounting, finance, or general accounting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with accounting software; experience with payroll systems (e.g. Sage 300) is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, able to explain payroll accounting concepts clearly.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism.
