Job Summary
Hire Resolve’s client in the Oil Industry is urgently seeking the expertise of an experienced Maintenance Manager to join their team in Gauteng.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible Plant Maintenance.
- To minimize breakdowns.
- Reduce downtime & maintenance costs and increase plant availability.
- Ensure plant is safe and operating at all times.
- Ensure the workshop is always neat and tidy.
- Health and safety requirements are met.
- Take responsibility for the condition and availability of all equipment.
- Ensure that all Employer Representative assigned duties are implemented within the scope of this JD and the appointment in terms of section 16(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 (OSH Act).
- Ensuring that the company’s commitment to quality as per the latest version of ISO 9001 is communicated to and implemented in your area of responsibility.
- Key areas of responsibility
- Draft and conduct daily site inspections
- Manage daily check lists of equipment
- Drafts and manage scheduled maintenance program.
- Schedule and manage list of maintenance program for critical equipment’s components:
- Boiler
- Pressure vessels
- Compressor
- Respond swiftly with purpose to breakdowns
- File and assign all job requests.
- Ensure job cards are assigned to current department /division.
- Ensure that the right parts, tools and spares are kept in store.
- Do with monthly stock take.
- Breakdowns - no loss of production hours
- Critical checks for jobs outstanding

- Update job schedule daily
- Work closely with internal teams by providing maintenance support and information.
- Understand working-in and building teams (as a competency) and be active in forming part of these teams.
- Management of staff
- Managing staff assigned to positions - this includes daily meetings, support and supervision of staff on assigned jobs; ensuring that the correct PPE is utilised; daily inspection of staff appearance ensuring they are neat and tidy; holding weekly tool box inspections and talks as well as the signing and balancing off on working hours; ensuring the correct in-house and external training is given to the staff, and also ensure quarterly appraisals are held. Ensuring that all personnel and visitors have received the correct induction to cover them whilst at the terminal.
- Set staff objectives, managed it through appraisal system and ensure the Lab(s) are correctly staffed to execute work within company standards
- Ensure that the quality management system conforms to the requirements of the latest version of ISO 9001, in your area of responsibility
- Ensure that your processes are delivering their intended outputs
- Reporting on the performance of the quality management system and on opportunities for improvement, applicable to your area of responsibility, to top management
- Ensure the promotion of customer focus
- Ensure that the integrity of the quality management system is maintained when changes are made within your area of responsibility
- Ensure the provision and maintenance of systems of work, Equipment and machinery that are safe and without risks to health.
- Taking steps to eliminate or mitigate any hazard or potential hazard to the safety or health of employees, before resorting to personal protective equipment.
- Making arrangements for ensuring, the safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the handling, storage and transport of articles.
- Establishing what hazards to the health and safety of persons are attached to any work which is performed, Equipment or machinery which is used in the business, and further establish what precautionary measure should be taken with respect to such work, Equipment or machinery in order to protect the health and safety of persons.
- Providing information, instructions, training and supervision as may be necessary to ensure, the health and safety at work of the employees.
- As far as reasonably practicable, not permitting any employee to do any work or to produce, process, use handle, store or transport any article or to operate any Equipment or machinery, unless the precautionary measures to address hazards, have been taken.
- Ensure that the requirements of the OSH Act are complied with by every person working under your control.
- Enforcing measures as may be necessary in the interest of health and safety.
- Ensure that work is performed under general supervision of a person trained to understand the hazards associated with it and who have the authority to ensure that precautionary measures are implemented.
- Ensure all employees are informed regarding the scope of their authority in terms of section 37(1)b
- Executing duties assigned to the individual in terms of other legal appointments that the Employer may require, which may include but is not limited to specific appointments, such as First Aider and Preparedness coordinator
Requirements:
- Matric and related Engineering qualification preferred
- 5+ years’ experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff
- Ability to give and follow up on instructions given to staff
- Demonstrate proactive thinking skills and ability to make decisions
- Ability to proactively manage and monitor processes and monitor them with procedures on site
- Prioritize, follow up and measure
- Good Leadership Skills
- Supervisory role, must be able to manage / supervise
- Needs to be a team player
