Job Summary
The Fabrication Team Leader will be responsible for planning, supervising, and executing all fabrication activities at all the company's sites. This role involves leading a team of skilled fabricators, ensuring high standards of quality and safety, and supporting the factory and maintenance teams with continuous improvement projects. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, plan fabrication jobs, and deliver projects on time while maintaining the efficiency and functionality of the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Fabrication Planning and Execution:
- Plan and prioritize fabrication jobs based on operational needs, maintenance schedules, and project timelines.
- Allocate resources effectively, including personnel, materials, and equipment, to ensure the timely completion of fabrication tasks.
- Lead and participate in the hands-on fabrication of components and structures as required, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and quality standards.
- Supervision and Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of fabricators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure high productivity and quality.
- Ensure any disciplinary or performance issues are effectively addressed and attended to in conjunction with Human Resources
- Ensure the timely completion of all Fabrication team weekly clock in reports, overtime and leave reports are submitted on time
- Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all fabrication activities comply with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all safety standards are adhered to at all times and that team members are compliant with these standards
- Ensure any safety improvement opportunities are identified and communicated to Health & Safety Department.
- Performance Management:
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify skills gaps, and collaborate with HR and the General Manager to address training needs.
- Ensure teams performance standards are clearly communicated to the team
- Support individual team members in achieving or improving performance standards
- Support to Factory and Maintenance Teams:
- Work closely with the factory and maintenance teams to identify opportunities for improvements and implement fabrication solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
- Assist the maintenance team with the fabrication of parts, structures, and other necessary components to ensure the smooth operation of equipment and facilities.
- Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the plant's performance and reducing downtime.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all fabricated items meet the required quality standards and specifications, conducting inspections and tests as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of fabrication jobs, including material usage, time allocation, and completed work, to ensure traceability and accountability.
- Address any fabrication issues that arise, applying problem-solving skills to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Equipment and Material Management:
- Manage the inventory of fabrication materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring that all necessary resources are available when needed.
- Ensure that all fabrication equipment is well maintained and in good working order, scheduling repairs and preventative maintenance as required.
- Monitor and manage the costs associated with fabrication activities, striving for cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
Educational and Professional Requirements:
- Relevant technical qualification in fabrication, welding, or mechanical engineering. A Red Seal certification (Boilermaker, Welder, or similar) is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a fabrication or mechanical engineering role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Proficiency in welding, cutting, and other metal fabrication techniques. Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of fabrication equipment.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations, quality control processes, and standard fabrication practices.
- Identify opportunities for skill development within the team, coordinating training sessions and encouraging knowledge sharing.
- Actively promote and enforce safety practices within the fabrication team, conducting safety briefings and audits as necessary.
- Assist in the planning and execution of larger engineering and maintenance projects, providing fabrication expertise and support.
