Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Operations Manager to join an established and fast-growing Truck Transport company based in the southeast of Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing a team of professionals, coordinating logistics, and implementing strategies to enhance overall performance for the business unit's day-to-day profitable, safe, and efficient running.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics or a related field - preferable
- Proven experience (10 years+) in operations management within the trucking or transportation industry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Operational reporting experience
- In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.
- Strategic thinking
- Driving growth by controlling the key performance areas such as fuel consumption, truck performance etc.
- Advanced excel skills
- Budget setting and management
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in using transportation management systems and other relevant software.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and manage drivers, coordinators, and support staff teams.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Oversee the planning and coordination of transportation schedules to optimize efficiency and meet customer demands.
- Manage monitoring and tracking of the movement of trucks, ensuring timely and safe deliveries.
- Management of dispatchers to address any issues or challenges in real-time.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule and perform regular inspections and maintenance on the fleet.
- Address and resolve any mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly to maintain high levels of satisfaction.
- Implement strategies to enhance customer experience and build long-term relationships
- Monitor and manage operational expenses to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising service quality.
- Optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effectiveness and enhance operational efficiency.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track operational performance.
