CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
Ensure effective management and operations of the Wastewater Treatment Works in terms of monitoring, ongoing optimization and control of processes and product quality to ensure all legal, license and contractual obligations and performance targets are met.
Ensure effective and efficient management by optimal utilization of staff and resources within the operating budget through planning, training, etc. (including disciplinary actions).
Manage, maintain and improve Wastewater Treatment Works O&M within the parameters of the ISO Standards (ISO 9001, 50001, 14001 & 45001), Green Drop systems, OHS Act and Labour Laws, etc.
Regular visual inspections to establish functionality levels & performance of unit processes and components and communicate/consultant with Plant Manager on further requirements/instructions.
Critically analyze the operation of unit processes (Input, process, output, analyses) to determine the plant performance compared to design criteria and past performances and ensure necessary changes if required to improve the operations.
Analyzing and interpreting progress reports, efficiency indicators and performance results, to establish the needs for investigations or adjustments to plant and operation parameters.
Prepare and forward operational performance reports to Plant Management referring to statistical data and qualitative information gathered through investigations and inspections - Daily & as required.
Investigate opportunities to improve operations and minimizes losses by optimization of energy, chemical and material dosing, application and process improvements initiatives.
Inspect, test and manage asset conditions & availability and maintenance requirements, assist in setting up / improving of preventative maintenance plans and reports for the unit processes
Liaise with Snr Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Manager on maintenance related issues of the wastewater treatment works and prioritize the work required according to Plant & Process requirements and risks.
Liaise with Maintenance team to plan servicing of equipment to ensure adequate equipment maintenance to optimize operating life with minimized impact on availability of the equipment and process performance.
Ensure Plant Status reports, Action Required reports and Performance & Compliance reports are updated and distributed Daily.
Ensure all Incidents / Non-Compliance Reports & actions to be actioned, completed, distributed timeously in all detail required.
Take lead in Operational Training and Disciplinary Actions required to ensure efficient, competent and safe Plant Operations
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Qualification and Experience:
Degree / Diploma in Chemical Engineering or relevant equivalent higher qualification.
Registered as DWS Class V or VI Process Controller – Applications don’t meet this requirement will not be considered.
At least 8 year’s relevant operating experience in wastewater treatment of which 4 years should be at a supervisory / management level.
At least 5 years MBR plant related operations experience
Proven experience in water / wastewater treatment environment, integrated complex SCADA systems, trouble-shooting and plant process optimization.
Experienced in professional detailed report writing.
Valid code B/EB driver’s license

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work as an integral part of a team
Excellent literacy, numeracy skills and accurate & detailed record keeping required
Skills in planning, attention to detail and report writing / compilation.
Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook and related programs
Mechanical and analytical aptitude with experience in SCADA and PLC controlled equipment and processes and troubleshooting of water and wastewater processes and control as well as equipment.
Results and goals driven; client & customer orientated.
Analytical problem-solving skills – ability to carry out situational analysis in process related problems, interpret results, advise accordingly and make knowledgeable decisions.
