Job Summary
A leading manufacturing and processing company in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) to drive asset optimization, plant reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives at its large-scale production facility. This role will focus on implementing world-class maintenance practices, optimizing mechanical systems, and leading efficiency-driven projects.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Expertise in continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience with SAP or other maintenance management systems (advantageous)
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork
- 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (heavy industry preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
- Asset Optimization & Performance: Drive continuous improvement projects to maximize mechanical equipment potential
- Preventative & Predictive Maintenance: Ensure optimal performance of all mechanical systems through structured maintenance strategies
- Engineering Support & Leadership: Provide expertise and leadership for mechanical engineering solutions and plant modifications
- Process Optimization & Troubleshooting: Improve production efficiency by analyzing and resolving mechanical inefficiencies.
- Budget & Cost Management: Develop and manage season and off-crop maintenance budgets, working with finance and optimization teams
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to technical standards, statutory requirements, and risk mitigation policies
- Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement: Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to drive best maintenance practices
- SHERQ & Governance: Promote and adhere to safety, health, environmental, risk, and quality (SHERQ) standards
- Benchmarking & Best Practices: Conduct internal and external benchmarking to identify and implement maintenance best practices.
