Job Summary
The Role The Assistant Accountant will act as the 2nd in Command (2IC) in the Finance Department, reporting directly to the Accountant. This role will oversee the rest of the finance team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and supporting the Accountant in achieving financial objectives. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership and people management skills to effectively manage team dynamics, foster collaboration, and maintain high standards of financial accuracy and compliance.
What’s in a Day’s Work?
Leadership and People Management- Supervise and manage the finance team, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment through effective communication and collaboration.
- Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to enhance team skills and performance.
- Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures by all finance team members.
Financial Operations and Support- Assist in preparing financial statements, budget forecasts, and reports.
- Handle accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Perform monthly reconciliations, monitor cash flow, and maintain accurate financial records.
System and Software Management- Use SUN accounting software to record and manage financial transactions.
- Support the integration and operation of Micros Materials Control software with financial systems.
- Utilize the Opera property management system for financial reporting.
Compliance and Internal Controls- Ensure adherence to Hilton and Valor Hospitality Partners’ financial policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining effective internal controls to safeguard assets and manage financial risks.
- Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits.
Cost and Budget Management- Assist in preparing budgets and monitoring expenses to ensure cost control.
- Support the identification of cost-saving opportunities and implementation of financial improvements.
Requirements
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, within the hospitality industry.
- Proficiency in SUN accounting software is essential.
- Experience with Opera property management and Micros Materials Control systems.
Skills- Strong people management and leadership abilities, with experience supervising a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in financial management tools and software.
Preferred Candidate- Indian National with relevant hospitality accounting experience.
- Previous working experience in Africa is an advantage.
