About the Role
A global leader in automotive manufacturing is looking for a meticulous and solution-oriented Project Engineer to join their team in Kariega. This 24-month contract role focuses on planning, designing, and developing state-of-the-art material-handling facilities, transport, and packaging systems to ensure optimal material flow. You’ll collaborate with internal departments and external contractors to maintain seamless logistics operations, reduce costs, and improve control systems.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Logistics & Material Flow Planning: Develop and implement detailed logistics material flow concepts in production and warehouse environments to optimize efficiency.
Facility & Equipment Design: Design, procure, and introduce specialized logistics facilities, including stillages, pallets, trolleys, racking, and packaging solutions based on project and production requirements.
Project Coordination: Define project plans, monitor progress, and ensure successful execution.
Supplier Engagement: Prepare and evaluate quotations from suppliers, negotiate pricing, and manage supplier relationships.
Capital Expenditure Management: Prepare appropriation requests and justify capital investments.
Facility Acceptance & Handover: Conduct equipment and facility demonstrations, ensuring seamless acceptance and handover.
Budget Estimation & Cost Control: Develop budget prices for investment programs, cost studies, and localization/export projects.
Packaging Specifications Development: Draft and maintain packaging specifications aligned with project needs.
Logistics Contract Management: Draft and update Logistics Material Handling Contract specifications to optimize control and reduce costs.
What You Need to Succeed:
Qualification:
Degree or National Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Logistics, or Purchasing.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in logistics processes within a manufacturing environment.
At least 18 months of project management experience.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently under pressure.
Excellent planning, organizing, and decision-making skills to meet tight deadlines.
Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in producing, interpreting, and understanding 3D CAD drawings.
Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word), with advanced Excel skills.
Added Advantage:
Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of SAP systems in Supply Chain Management.
German language proficiency to collaborate effectively with international stakeholders.
