Job Summary
Job description: System Design: Specify and design mechanical and electrical systems, including propulsion, energy, fuel, control, navigation, and communications systems, as well as onboard amenities such as freshwater, ventilation, heating, catering, and laundry CAD Modeling: Develop 2D and 3D CAD models for systems components and complete necessary design calculations Costing and Material Forecasting: Perform cost analysis and forecast materials for prototype development and engineering changes BOM Management: Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and update them as necessary Quality Checks: Conduct critical quality checks on new parts and system prototypes to ensure they meet design specifications and standards Technical Documentation: Create and update technical reports, SOPs, technical bulletins, and retrofit procedures ECR Implementation: Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), providing updates and feedback on progress Support and Collaboration: Provide technical support to the tooling, production, manufacturing, logistics, and commissioning teams, ensuring smooth implementation and integration of systems Skills & Experience: Design: 3-5 years of design experience in the boat/ caravan/ vehicle building industry Marine Systems Knowledge: Proven experience in the marine electronics industry with a thorough understanding of design for manufacturing and build sequences CAD Proficiency: Working knowledge of SolidWorks (2014 or newer) and basic familiarity with AutoCAD/Draftsight (2010 or newer) Technical Competence: Strong ability to read and draft electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics, and a basic knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, and electronic systems, preferably in the marine industry Computer Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic project management software Qualifications: Minimum National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or related field, preferably Mechanical or Electrical.
