Job Summary
A leading manufacturing company is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Occupational Health & Safety Officer to support its SHE team in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Key Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric qualification
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 training (advantageous)
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and engage with employees at all levels
- 3+ years’ SHE experience in a manufacturing environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Legal Requirements: Assist in ensuring full compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and ISO standards
- Risk Assessments: Conduct baseline, issue-based, and continuous risk assessments to enhance workplace safety.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting: Assist in investigating workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, ensuring corrective measures are implemented
- Safety Training & Induction: Conduct safety inductions for new employees and contractors, and assist in SHE training programs
- Audits & Inspections: Perform internal audits, daily safety inspections, and compliance checks to maintain a safe work environment
- Health & Safety Committees: Organize and participate in SHE committee meetings, preparing agendas and maintaining records
- PPE & Safety Equipment Management: Ensure the procurement, distribution, and compliance of PPE & first aid equipment
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in scheduling and conducting annual evacuation drills and emergency response planning
- Contractor & Visitor SHE Compliance: Ensure all contractors and visitors adhere to site safety policies and legal requirements.
