Job Summary
Job description:
Component and Gear Design: Design composite components and deck gear to meet structural, functional, and certification requirements, ensuring cost-effectiveness
CAD Modeling and Calculations: Develop 2D and 3D CAD models, conduct design calculations, and specify composite components for new products or engineering changes
Cost Analysis and Material Forecasting: Perform cost analysis and forecast materials for prototype development, ensuring budget adherence
Material Research: Research new materials and parts for viability in new product development and ECR projects, and provide material forecasts to logistics
Bill of Materials (BOM) Management: Prepare and maintain accurate BOMs to support manufacturing processes
Quality Checks: Conduct quality checks on prototypes and ECR implementations to ensure high standards are met
Technical Drawings and CNC Files: Create and update technical drawings and CNC files for manufacturing and assembly processes
Documentation Management: Compile and update technical reports, SOPs, technical bulletins, and retrofit procedures to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation
ECR Management: Manage the status of ECRs, provide feedback, and ensure effective implementation of changes
Administrative Documentation: Complete and update DVOs, BCRs, TQRs, and maintain trackers such as Milestone Tracker and drawing register to ensure project milestones are met
Tooling Support: Assist the Tooling Department by checking plug geometry and providing necessary details during construction
Production Support: Support production teams during prototyping and ECR implementation by clarifying design intent and processes
Technical Support: Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, and Process Engineers regarding design specifications
Logistics and Stores Support: Assist Logistics and Stores Departments with BOM queries and part usage explanations to prevent material shortfalls or obsolescence
Warranty and Commissioning Support: Offer technical feedback for warranty claims and perform quality checks during commissioning of new products or engineering changes
Technical Purchasing Support: Address queries related to TQRs and advise on stock code redundancy to ensure efficient purchasing processes
Project Management Collaboration: Collaborate with Project Management, providing updates on project progress and deliverables to ensure project timelines are met
Skills & Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in engineering/design within a manufacturing environment, with a preference for boat building
Proficiency in SolidWorks (2015 or newer) and basic knowledge of AutoCAD/ Draft sight (2010 or newer)
Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between locations as required
Qualifications:
Diploma in Engineering or a related field (NQF Level 6)
