Job Summary
Job description:
As a Construction Engineer/Boat Building Craftsman, you will play a key role in designing and detailing various elements such as joinery, interiors, and bulkhead installations for multiple production lines
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are not only structurally sound and functionally effective but also aesthetically pleasing and cost-efficient
Design and detail joinery, assemblies, and yacht components, ensuring compliance with structural, functional, and cost requirements, including work on tooling design, jig creation, and manufacturing processes
Develop comprehensive 2D and 3D CAD models and perform necessary calculations for new product designs or engineering change requests (ECR)
Plan and produce manufacturing and installation drawings for joinery and interior components, including GRP components and other structural elements
Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOM) for custom parts, including stainless-steel components and other hardware, ensuring accuracy and readiness for production
Conduct thorough quality checks on prototypes and during ECR implementations to ensure that all parts and installations meet design specifications
Collaborate with other design teams and communicate new design details to various departments, providing support and feedback to ensure successful implementation
Investigate new techniques and products to enhance design and manufacturing processes and introduce improvements through established change management procedures
Support the building of prototypes for new projects, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and functionality
Skills & Experience:
Design Expertise: At least 3 years of experience in marine joinery, caravan, motorhome, or engineering industries, with a solid understanding of design for manufacturing and build sequences
Joinery Knowledge: Practical knowledge of joinery construction and tooling design, along with associated manufacturing processes
CAD Proficiency: Proficiency in Solidworks (2013 or later) and a basic understanding of AutoCAD/Draftsight (2010 or later) Competence with MS Office, particularly Excel
Requirements:
National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
Must possess a valid driver's license and can travel between locations as required
