Job Summary:
The Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all electrical and mechanical equipment and installations comply with the OHS act and related regulations. The role involves managing resources within the electrical and mechanical department efficiently, including artisans, budgets, and tools. Additionally, the Construction Supervisor instructs, directs, and supervises workshop foremen to maintain proper workshop operating procedures and oversees special undertakings related to equipment repair, maintenance, and modification.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Management:
- Supervise workers and subcontractors in daily construction activities.
- Collaborate with project managers to plan work and manage orders and deliveries of construction materials.
- Organize staff work schedules and ensure work is carried out safely.
Administration and Project Management:
- Maintain project administration in a correct and timely manner.
- Order materials and equipment, obtain necessary permits, and manage construction budgets.
- Assess safety and financial goals and contribute construction information to strategic plans.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Select, orient, and train employees within the construction team.
- Manage subcontractors by locating, evaluating, and selecting contractors.
Project Oversight:
- Define project purpose and scope to accomplish construction project results.
- Conduct inspections at critical phases to approve construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with codes to prevent fines and work interruptions.
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by enforcing guidelines, standards, and procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with safety codes and advancements in construction.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- Grade 12
- National Diploma in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering or a related field in the built environment.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (5-8) years' experience in managing infrastructure projects within the construction industry.
- Knowledge of industry contracts (NEC, PROCSA, JBCC).
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to focus and keep calm under pressure.
- Knowledge of project management principles and codes and standards for the construction profession.
- Report writing skills and proficiency in MS Project/Primavera.
- Ability to read construction blueprints and store elevation drawings.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects with urgent deadlines.
