Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Offshore IT Technician to provide technical support and ensure the smooth operation of IT systems on our offshore facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on experience with hardware and software support, and a solid background in networking (LAN/WAN, satellite communications, and Wi-Fi, VSAT. You will be the first point of contact for all IT-related issues on the rig.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first- and second-line IT support to offshore personnel.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, printers, and network equipment.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity, including satellite and radio communications.
- Manage and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Liaise with onshore IT teams to ensure seamless communication and issue resolution.
- Maintain and update asset and configuration management databases.
- Monitor system performance and carry out routine preventative maintenance.
- Ensure backups, antivirus, and patch management are up to date and functioning properly.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity protocols in line with company policies.
- Support VOIP systems and satellite communication platforms.
- Participate in the development and enforcement of IT standards and procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Provide support during system upgrades, outages, and disaster recovery scenarios.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of IT support experience, preferably in an industrial or remote/offshore environment.
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPN).
- Hands-on experience with Cisco or Juniper network devices.
- Familiarity with satellite communication systems (e.g., VSAT, Iridium).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, and backup solutions.
- Experience with remote desktop tools and helpdesk ticketing systems.
- Valid BOSIET, HUET, and offshore medical certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable
- Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+/Security+ certification.
- Experience with cybersecurity practices in industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL principles or similar service management frameworks.
