Job Summary
The Data Scientist works under the guidance of the Technology team and will be responsible for analyzing large amounts of raw information (particularly unstructured text data) to find patterns, build models to address business problems, and present information using various data visualization techniques and platforms.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Applying statistics, machine learning, and analytical approaches to solve business problems, turning the company’s volumes of big data into valuable and actionable insights.
- Collaborating with Management to understand business and information needs.
- Building predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to answer critical business questions.
- Where applicable, undertaking data mining and developing and documenting robust and scalable data extraction tools.
- Analyse large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns and perform forecasts through intelligent models.
- Use data visualization techniques to interpret and deliver business intelligence insights based on data.
- Collaborate with the Senior Management, Data Visualization, and Production teams to improve data governance processes, data quality, and other data management services.
- Build applications and solution through market research, as well as internal and external networks, to produce meaningful information to be shared and used in the organization.
- Continuous research to develop and implement new ideas and improved methods, systems, and work processes which lead to higher quality, better results at the same or reduced cost.
- Keep abreast of new advanced analytical techniques which can be applied to your everyday role to improve your impact on the business.
- Accounting System Integration: Analyze financial data to identify trends, forecast future financial performance, and provide insights that support business decision-making.
- Prep and validate data by writing SQL code.
- Select and implement appropriate data visualisation formats.
- Assist with mapping and documentation of requirements.
Advantageous:
• Programming experience with a relevant language such as Python.
EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Actuarial Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Statistics).
- Candidates without a Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems qualification must have some software/data engineering experience.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience across the data science workflow will be advantageous.
- Solid theoretical predictive modelling, mathematical and statistical skills.
- Proficient in SQL.
- Proficient with business intelligence tools and data frameworks, such as Power BI is essential.
- Exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of R and Python or other programming language.
- Business process mapping abilities.
- Understanding of machine learning and operations research.
- Highly analytical with strong maths and statistics skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data.
