Job Summary
A major player in the mining and metallurgical sector is seeking an experienced Winder Specialist to join its Shaft Services team. This role is pivotal in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient winder operations while maintaining peak production performance across shafts.
Requirements
- Matric / NQF Level 4 + Electrical Trade Certificate
- N4 Diploma/National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
- 7+ years' hands-on experience in winder commissioning, fault-finding & repairs
- Analog/Digital VSDs and PLC systems (Mitsubishi, CTI, Siemens, Codesys). Working knowledge of Headgear, ropes & shaft loading systems; Hydraulic systems & mechanical winder components
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure winders run safely, reliably and efficiently
- Lead and participate in technical audits and fault resolution
- Assist with the installation, compliance and commissioning of new equipment
- Liaise with OEMs and consultants on upgrades & improvements
- Provide technical mentoring and training to winder personnel
- Ensure compliance with all winder-related codes of practice (COPs) and standards
Key Competencies
- Shaft and Winder Equipment (Analog/Digital VSDs, PLCs, Hydraulics, Gears & Ropes)
- Control philosophies and mechanical systems
- Fault-finding and diagnostics
- Risk assessment & MHSA compliance
- Winder COPs and statutory inspections
- Mitsubishi, CTI, Siemens, Codesys PLCs
- Strong technical reporting & communication skills
