Job Summary
Key Responsibilities: Operational Supervision: Oversee day-to-day drilling operations, ensuring adherence to approved drilling programs, schedules, and budgets. Supervise and coordinate the activities of drilling crews, contractors, and service providers. Monitor the performance of drilling equipment and operations to achieve optimum efficiency and minimal downtime. Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of drilling rigs and associated equipment. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Promote and enforce a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with HSE policies and procedures. Conduct regular safety briefings and ensure all personnel are aware of and adhere to safety protocols. Investigate and report incidents, accidents, or near misses and implement corrective actions. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all drilling operations comply with local, national, and international regulations. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to drilling activities, inspections, and certifications. Planning and Execution: Collaborate with engineers and project teams to plan drilling operations, including well design, casing, and cementing programs. Optimize drilling parameters and procedures to improve well delivery and cost efficiency. Provide technical guidance and support to resolve operational challenges. Reporting and Communication: Prepare and submit detailed daily and periodic drilling reports to management. Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to align operational objectives. Participate in planning meetings and operational reviews to ensure continuous improvement. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelors degree or diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. In-depth knowledge of drilling techniques, well control, and rig equipment. Certification in well control (e.g., IWCF or IADC WellSharp) is mandatory. Familiarity with South African oil and gas regulations and industry best practices. Skills & Competencies: Strong leadership and decision-making skills to manage teams and handle operational challenges. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to optimize drilling performance. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.
