Job Summary
EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS Identifies opportunities for optimisation of mining equipment productivity across the full range of mining equipment All mining-related systems e.g., Truck & Load monitoring system, IsoMetrix (integrated risk management system), planning software / block model (where and how to mine), etc. Working closely with the engineer to ensure the implementation of robust planned maintenance Chair and coordinate the monthly mine planning process with all business partners on the mine. Working closely with the mine planning, mineral resources department and Geotech to ensure slope stability monitoring systems on the mine. Working closely with the Geotech Department. To develop protocols to enhance slope management controls Drive the implementation of critical controls within the mining processes DECISIONS AND JUDGEMENTS Decides on load /haul schedules and loading places, with the authority to stop the activity. Makes final decisions on safety matters. Deals with employees and contractors questions / issues, deciding how best to handle them. Has the authority to postpone a blast; but would inform General Manager and any others affected in advance. Makes recommendations (not decisions) on capital projects. Having absolute authority over the mining plan and instituting change management notes in case of change in the original signed-off mine plan. Complexity arises from the fact that it is challenging to keep track and to know what is going on Aligning the business partners to the company's goals and culture, especially the onboarding of new service providers/contractors Able to have robust and difficult conversations with teams and direct subordinate Able to showcase leadership and drive for continual improvement STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS Internal stakeholders: Company executives and Management colleagues, organised labour, own team members and business partners External stakeholders: Other mines in the area, regulatory officials / inspectors, farmers, contractor principals MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Mining Engineering Degree Minimum of 10 of years experince in opencast mining and 3 years as a mine manager A valid Opencast Blasting Certificate Mine Managers Certificate of Competency Experience required: Contractor Mining experience Experience in driving productivity improvement initiatives to achieve mines strategic plans In mine planning and execution Excellent knowledge of safety legislation and best practices within the metals industry Investigation capability and report writing skills Exposure to OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001 Experience in risk management and compliance COMPETENCIES / SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrable management skills in mine planning, production management Skilled in management attributes; planning, leading, organising, controlling) Report writing skill Professional, verbal and written communication in English Communication and networking skills within the organisation and externally Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) Managing of high-performance teams Personal attributes: Self-starter Team player Drive and enthusiasm Conceptual ability Tolerance for ambiguity Influential Development Orientation Result driven Prepared to show initiative
