Job Summary
Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities:
• Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, gearboxes, and braking systems.
• Checking vehicle electrical systems.
• Conduct different vehicle services at relevant dealer intervals and as booked by Branch Operations.
• Prepare vehicle for COF prior to sending vehicle to testing station to ensure that vehicle pass roadworthy.
• Test driving vehicles after completion of service and report on performance.
• Performing preventative maintenance and services on vehicles.
• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles.
• Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
• Maintaining a parts inventory and checklist on breakdown vehicle.
• Ensuring the cleanliness of the workshop.
• Liaising with 3rd Party to assist with regional breakdowns, where applicable and provide feedback to Branch Manager.
• Liaising with service agents/suppliers on repairs and maintenance on vehicles and provide feedback on progress to Branch Manager.
• Breakdown assistance, when required/requested.
Diesel Mechanic Measurements:
• No comebacks on serviced/repaired vehicles.
• Quality of Work completed.
• Minimum time spend on breakdowns ensuring minimum vehicle downtime.
• Report to Branch Manager on breakdown vehicle/s that must come into workshop for additional repair/s, where applicable.
• Monthly Productivity levels to be maintained and exceed a minimum of 70% productivity. (Covid-19 Related) – Normally productivity = 85% and more.
Diesel Mechanic Requirements:
• Relevant Red Seal Qualification.
• Valid relevant driver's license applicable to vehicle category.
• Fully equipped toolbox required to perform duties.
• Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
• Good fault finding and diagnostic skills.
• Physically fit and able to lift and move all around vehicles.
• Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
• Attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Good organization skills.
