Job Summary
Basic Requirements:
- Formal Tertiary education : N. Dip or higher in Electrical Engineering
or Mechatronics Degree - Drivers License : Code 8 – required
- Languages :
- English (speak, read, and write)
- Afrikaans (speak, read, and write)
Experience:
- Min 3 years’ experience in an Electrical Design capacity.
- Computer Literate
- Electrical panel building
- Field wiring of related hardware to panel
- Fault finding
- Fluid control systems (valves & actuators, etc)
- Extensive design experience in ePlan (including panel layouts and fluid control)
- Knowledge of electrical control hardware (including Power Supplies, PLC, Sensors, Actuators, Transducers, IO
- Devices, Printers, Scanners, IPC, Valves, Cables, Motor & Drive Systems, Plugs, Bus Systems & Hardware)
- Site Experience and/or project/team lead experience.
- Competent in doing full machine specifications and designs.
Job Objectives:
- Must perform all the duties and tasks of an Electrical Designer with excellence
- Work within the design department team to deliver engineering designs and solutions specific to customer requirements and / or specifications on a specific project timeline basis
- Implement and maintain design procedures in order to improve design productivity and accuracy of design
- Improve the development of the design team in order to achieve the highest design standard.
- Ensure continuous improvement in design department and staying at the forefront of technology
- Achieve all job objectives with minimal input from Electrical Design Manager
- Personal development of the team – help them grow as designers, and as people
- Seek opportunities to improve the productivity of the design department
- To deliver high quality machines to achieve customer specific requirements within project constraints
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

- Leading a design team to meet a projects’ technical and timeline requirements
- Set-up, control and ensure Design Timing is met as per project requirement
- Verify technical designs
- Promote “outside the box” thinking amongst designers
- Push designers to actively reduce costs and provide designers with suggestions and opportunities for cost savings
- Liaise with customer, if necessary, with regards to design concepts and or changes during the design phase
- Mentor, instruct, and uplift designers
- Proactively involved with the customer to ensure highly successful project outcomes
- This person must have the ability to instill his “uniqueness” on a project and when complete one must be able to see that he/she was involved in that project
- Holistic view of a project and its requirements in the interest of producing a better overall product.

- Excellent technical knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering principals and implementation
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of electrical control system safety aspects and principles as well as risk assessment and safety performance level evaluation
- Up-skilling designers and nurture efficiency
- Ability to develop new ways of doing things
- Ability to present technical solutions to senior management and/or customer
- Strategic thinking and be able to foresee problems before they arise
- Understanding others – who they are, what motivates them, and how to get them to perform at their best
- The ability to get others to do what you want them to do by making them believe it was their idea
Interpersonal Skills:
- Must be able to work well under pressure
- Must have an understanding of what is required to lead a team and strive towards this
- Good people management, motivational and leadership skills
- Must practice good conflict resolution skills
- Provide an environment where designers feel enthused and want to perform and achieve personal growth
- Must be a good role model, and a leader that sub-ordinates would be eager to work under.
