Job Summary
Position Description:
The Senior Systems Core Administrator is responsible for integration of complex and customized proprietary products and making these services fast and reliable at all times. The position requires the combination of software integration networking and systems engineering expertise to create and manage reliable, automated, scalable and fault-tolerant systems.
Reporting:
The Senior Systems Core Administrator reports to the Head of Computing Systems.
Depending on the size of the Systems team and requirements they may have one or more junior or intermediate staff report to them. In this case they will be responsible for the administration of leave, ensuring compliance with all company and department policies, provide peer review feedback and provide mentorship, support and encouragement.
Required Minimum Education:
- Relevant degree or diploma (BTech, BSc, etc.)
Required Minimum Work Experience:
- This position requires at least 7 years’ experience in Linux and storage systems administration.
Required Competencies:
Familiarity with most of the technologies listed below:
- RedHat Linux/CentOS 5/6/7
- VoIP (Asterisk/OpenSIPS/Kamailio)
- Virtualisation (KVM/openVZ/VMware/libvirt)
- Monitoring and Telemetry Systems (IRIS/Nagios/logstash/Graphite/Kibana etc.)
- Databases (MySQL/MariaDB/Galera cluster/replication/Cassandra/Elastic)
- Internet Services (BIND/PowerDNS/postfix/Dovecot/RADIUS etc.)
- Clustering (Pacemaker/Heartbeat/Corosync)
- Firewalls and load balancing (iptables/ipvs/HAproxy/keepalived)
- Filesystems and network access (NFS/iSCSI/fc/ceph)
- Web/Application servers (GlassFish/JBoss/Tomcat/Apache)
- Scripting (sh/perl/Python/Ruby)
- Networking (Ethernet/IPv4/LAN/WAN/routing protocols)
Additional requirements:
- Architected more than one solution involving most of the above technologies
- Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members
- Strong understanding of networking at all levels
- Effective troubleshooting in highly complex, interrelated systems
- Innovative approach to fixing problems, providing solutions
