Job Description:
My Client is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic General Manager for their deluxe resort in Zanzibar. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a proven track record of driving business profitability and overseeing entire business operations in a coastal resort setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee overall operations and functions of the resort, ensuring profitability.
- Establish partnerships with international travel brands to maximize business.
- Optimize the use of resources, including managing profit centers like the golf course.
- Provide strategic direction to the Sales & Marketing team to achieve targets.
- Conduct regular briefings and meetings with all head departments.
- Ensure compliance with hotel operating controls, SOPs, policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Lead key property issues including capital projects, customer service, and refurbishment.
- Handle complaints and oversee service recovery procedures.
- Prepare, present, and achieve the hotel's annual Operating Budget, Marketing & Sales Plan, and Capital Budget.
- Ensure the ongoing profitability of the hotel, meeting or exceeding revenue and guest satisfaction targets.
- Make decisions in the best interest of the hotel and management.
- Deliver hotel budget goals and set strategic goals for the property.
- Develop improvement actions and implement cost-saving measures.
- Monitor P&L statements and react with impactful strategies.
- Closely monitor the hotel's business reports daily and make informed decisions.
- Ensure monthly financial outlooks for Rooms, Food & Beverage, Admin & General are accurate and on target.
- Maximize room yield and resort revenue through innovative sales practices and yield management programs.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for owners and stakeholders.
- Draw up plans and budgets for the owners.
- Assist in the procurement of operating supplies and equipment and contract with third-party vendors for essential equipment and services.
- Act as the final decision-maker in hiring key staff.
- Coordinate with HODs for the execution of all activities and functions.
- Oversee and manage all departments, working closely with department heads daily.
- Manage and develop the Hotel Executive team to ensure career progression and development.
- Take ownership of all guest complaints.
- Provide effective leadership to the hotel team.
- Lead all aspects of business planning.
- Respond to audits to ensure continual improvement is achieved.
- Handle corporate clients and assist in new client acquisition with the sales team when required.
- Assist in residential sales and development with strong sales prospects.
- Safeguard the quality of operations (internal & external audits).
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including Occupational Health & Safety Act, fire regulations, and other legal requirements.
