Assistant Accountant

We’re searching for an enthusiastic Assistant Accountant who is passionate about numbers and eager to make a real difference. In this role, you’ll be a key player in our finance team, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the daily administration and maintenance of our investment programmes and project systems.
- Handle settlements for month-end closings with accuracy.
- Provide valuable insights by managing weekly cash flow related to capital and operational expenditure (CAPEX) projects.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset registers for the division.
- Review and verify income and expenses before the month-end to ensure accuracy.
- Manage inventory reporting and ensure precise tracking.
- Prepare and process accurate journals for the General Ledger.
- Handle monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including VAT, with precision.
- Assist in preparing financial analysis with commentary to close off the reporting month.
- Contribute to the preparation of input schedules for statutory returns (Income Tax and VAT).
- Help with the preparation of financial statements and ensure we’re audit-ready with comprehensive schedules.
- Provide backup support to other Assistant Accountants and tackle ad-hoc tasks as needed.
What You Bring:
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, with a strong grasp of numbers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with everyone from senior management to operational staff.
- A solid understanding of accounting and financial principles, processes, and practices.
- Experience in managing fixed assets and CAPEX is essential.
- High attention to detail with a well-organised and structured approach to your work.
- A team-player attitude, with the ability to promote teamwork and put the success of the team above your own interests.
- Flexibility to adapt positively to change and handle longer working hours during peak periods with ease.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BCom Accounting or National Diploma in Accounting.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in a similar finance role.
- Experience with SAP is required, and familiarity with Sage is a bonus as we are transitioning to this system.
- Working knowledge of Income Tax and VAT legislation.
- Experience with fixed assets is highly advantageous.
