Job Summary
Purpose
Manage all activities necessary for Welding Inspection and or Fit Up Inspection (Offshore Pipelay).
Functions
Weld Inspection
- Manage welding and Fit Up inspectors.
- Witness qualification testing of third-party welding personnel.
- Inspect all welding materials and equipment.
- Witness and ensure welding is performed per the WPS for the offshore pipeline welding activities.
- Review weld count, weld records, and any NC welding reports.
- Verify proper handling of material.
- Confirming proper consumables are being used (including material and diameters)
- Confirming proper machine settings
- Verifying welders' identification on completed welds.
- Review Disciplines' Quality Control Documentation for Completeness.
- Verifying proper handling and issuance of consumables.
Weld Fit Up
- Witness fit-up and qualification testing of third-party welding personnel.
- Inspect fit-up devices and all welding materials and equipment.
- Witness and ensure fit-up and welding is performed per the WPS for the offshore welding activities
- Review weld count, weld records, and any NC welding reports
- Confirming proper consumables are being used (including material and diameters)
- Confirming proper machine settings
- Verifying welders' identification on completed welds.
- Review Disciplines' Quality Control Documentation for Completeness.
- Verifying proper handling and issuance of consumables.
Safety
Ensure that the Safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to so far as is reasonably practicable to ensure a safe working environment.
Other
Carry out work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.
Perform the assigned tasks with due diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems on the Company.
Eliminate waste of whatever form, to suggest the use of more environmentally friendly substances and practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has NO direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Reports to the Project Manager..
- Daily contact and technical reporting to site client contact or client Quality Team representatives.
- Employee shall report the results of all site inspections as advised by client for a specific task. ria, and follow-up action as necessary. Inspection reports shall be in a paper or electronic format as agreed to by client.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL
- CSWIP 3.1/3.2 CWI or AWS CWI/SCWI
- Demonstrate knowledge of codes such as ANSI B 31.3,31.4, and 31.8, ASME section V and IX, API 620,650, AWS D1.1 required for the execution of work.
- Have direct knowledge of heat treatment.
- Be able to verify the parameters of to approved heat treatment procedures.
- Be thoroughly familiar withy heat treating requirements of ASME B31.3 and ASME section VIII Division 1.
- OPITO offshore survival or equivalent
- UKOOA offshore medical or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years previous experience in similar supervisory position/Welding Superintendent.
DESIRED
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Piping & Welding Inspection in the oil and gas industry.
- Previous experience of weld inspection on Offshore Pipelay projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Fluent in communicating, reading, and writing English.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a project environment.
- Previous experience in oil & gas industry, track record of supporting the management of engineering / inspection projects.
- Familiar with QA/QC systems/procedures.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office suits.
- Excellent customer service and client relations skills.
- Ensures that regular consistent communication takes place within the work group.
Working Conditions
This position is considered OFFSHORE which is characterized as follows:
- Outdoors working on work site, day or night. Indoor office for reporting.
- Work sites can be warehouse, yard, vendor shop, construction site, industrial city.
- Requires working on or near oil and gas plant equipment, pumps, skids, modules.
- During summer season humidity is above 90%. Noise can be over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
- Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks/gases on adjacent work parties
- Potential exposure to airborne dust, fumes at work site
- Work surface is stable, height is elevated. Use of ladders and scaffold for some access.
- Confined space required but infrequent.
- Working outside for extended periods of time in temperatures as high as 40°C.
