Job Summary
Purpose:
The Purpose of the Senior Solar Engineer is to reduce client electrical consumption while providing more power, by taking clients off-grid and optimising client use of electrical and other equipment and build long-term partnerships. Our client is looking for someone who will be a pro-active/leading part of a small, passionate, professional team.

Responsibilities
- Design, build and/or implement, advise and have a good working knowledge of applicable codes on:
- Electrical wiring of panels and switchboards
- Electrical design of low voltage and 3.3KV reticulation systems
- Have a good working knowledge and be proficient when working with relays, contactors, Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (E.L.C.B), surge protection devices, Programmable logic controller (PLC) etc.
- Design, build and/or implement, advise and have a good working knowledge of applicable codes with respect to photovoltaics when designing and overseeing the installation of:
- Array support systems
- Panel array stringing
- String inverter
- Battery inverters
- Batteries
- Carry out site inspections on existing and greenfield sites and perform site actual or predicted load analysis resulting in suitable power system design including:
- Array sizing
- Battery sizing
- Reticulation
- Packaging the above into a practical and cost-effective system
- Be able to make use of, setup and have a working knowledge of:
- Basic networking and industrial communication protocols
- A.D /drawing package
- To be proficient in:

Requirements:
- Must have an Electrical Engineering Diploma, Degree or any related qualification
- Have experience in sizing, design and project planning including delivery experience and is keen to learn solar
- Must have a high-level of energy, resourcefulness, practical, bright, a ‘’rare beast’’ who sees working in the Safari bush location for weeks-on-end as a great experience.
- Must be hands-on, willing to get stuck-in, quite entrepreneurial. Must have great communication skills and able to approach and manage senior clients and ensure that the team is properly catered for on-site
Competencies:
- Be self-motivated and to opt into work, rather than wait for it to be delegated
- Be able to work within a small team and thus must be able to function without vast support structures
- Be able to think broadly and not only work within a silo
- Able to plan ahead and foresee and identify the problem areas – (often these have nothing to do with engineering but rather logistics and supply)
- Formally and more importantly understand informal/formal market and present to potential clients
- Must have the ability to socially interact with a range of different people is critical i.e. this would include people from many different backgrounds ranging from foreign clients, professionals through to artisans and general labour
- Prepared to spend up to a total of 2 months per annum away from home in remote locations – length of stints away will be 2 weeks at a time but on rare occasions one site may require two separate visits, an initial site establishment visit followed by end of project commissioning visit
