Role Summary
A vacancy exists for a Therapy Manager within the Acute Rehabilitation Centre situated in Durban.
Key Work Output and Accountabilities:
- The Clinical Specialist will be responsible for managing and coordinating high quality therapy service delivery and resources within the unit
- To lead therapists and ensure safe, high quality therapy service delivery in the rehabilitation unit.
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate the rehabilitation service delivery with the relevant rehabilitation team members to achieve clinical and functional outcomes for in-patients in the unit.
- Ensure competence of staff, determine and drive criteria for effective professional socialization, create an environment conducive to learning and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
- Promote customer satisfaction within the unit, address customer complaints, conduct quality care rounds and clinical practice audits to monitor intervention and report accordingly.
- Identify safety risks and trends in the unit and implement corrective action where necessary.
- Initiate and drive unit specific best operating practice, communicate these for wider implementation and participate in hospital specific marketing initiatives.
- Effective financial management (including equipment) through participating in business planning and budgeting processes and manage therapy costs according to budget.
- Ensure all therapists are registered with HPCSA and have a current registration to practice
- Ensure staff are trained on the operation of equipment within unit and together with relevant stakeholders ensure equipment is in working order to provide a safe patient environment.
- Coordinate the weekly team meeting, participate in the weekly management meeting and bi-monthly rehabilitation meeting.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. HODs, enabling functions, patients, family members, service providers etc.) through ongoing communication and feedback.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with doctors and external stakeholders by driving and monitoring effective communication regarding positive patient outcomes, functioning as an advocate for Lenmed.

- Ensure patient pass outs are approved by the family and planned according.
- Implement national quality initiatives within unit with the focus on improved clinical outcomes and report accordingly.

Inherent Requirements
- A relevant health professional qualification NQF 7
- A post graduate qualification in Management or relevant Master’s Degree would be advantageous
- Registration with the Health Professional Council as a therapist.
- In good standing with HPCSA and all applicable health care legislations
- Compulsory BLS certification
- Ensure clinical expertise within therapy (3-5 years of clinical experience in an acute hospital)
- Experience in managing a unit would be an advantage.
- Experience with conflict resolution and working with a multidisciplinary disciplinary team
- An intermediate level of Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Power point)
- Proficiency in compiling and reviewing clinical reports which must be submitted to medical funders (Admission, progress and discharge reports).
- Experience with liaising with stakeholders and medical funders.
- Basic knowledge of PMB and funder authorizations.
