Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Senior Network Engineer based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Requirements:
Experience:
- 7-10 years of proven experience as a Network Engineer, with a strong focus on Cisco, Fortinet, and Aruba technologies.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in configuring and managing Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls.
- In-depth experience with Fortinet firewall systems and security solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Aruba wireless technologies, including configuration and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in network protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.) and advanced routing and switching.
- Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to troubleshooting complex issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities, particularly in guiding junior engineers.
Other Requirements:
- Availability to work on-site in Johannesburg.
- Willingness to be on-call for critical network support and incident resolution.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design and Implementation
- Design, configure, and implement complex network solutions using Cisco, Fortinet, and Aruba technologies.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, and expansion projects to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
Network Security Management
- Implement and maintain advanced security protocols, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) using Fortinet technologies.
- Monitor and respond to security incidents, ensuring the network infrastructure is secure and compliant with organisational policies.
Troubleshooting and Support
- Provide 3rd level support and troubleshooting for network incidents, including routing, switching, and wireless issues.
- Collaborate with the IT team to resolve complex network problems and ensure minimal downtime.
Network Optimisation and Monitoring
- Proactively monitor network performance using various tools to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Analyse network traffic and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, reliability, and security.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- Generate regular performance reports and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
Collaboration and Team Leadership
- Mentor and guide junior network engineers, providing technical expertise and leadership.
- Work closely with other departments, vendors, and stakeholders to coordinate and execute network projects.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies for network infrastructure.
- Ensure network redundancy and business continuity plans are in place and regularly tested.
Vendor and Technology Management
- Manage relationships with network vendors (Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba) and ensure equipment is up-to-date and compliant with the latest standards.
- Evaluate new networking technologies and provide strategic recommendations to enhance the organisation’s network infrastructure.
