Hire Resolve's client is looking for a Data Scientist to join their Chief Underwriting Office team in Johannesburg, GP. In this role, you will utilize your analytical skills and expertise to turn raw data into actionable insights that will drive business decisions and strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modelling, simulation and optimisation to discover trends, opportunities and threats.
- Assesses the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
- Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems. Communicates findings to business users, using data visualisation techniques to share solutions.
- Designs quantitative advanced analytics models that answer business questions and/or discover opportunities for improvement, increased revenue or reduced costs.
- Remains current with developments in advanced analytics technology and methodologies.
- Technical expert in ML languages and packages/techniques.
- Coach and mentor junior Data Scientists/Analysts.
- Responsible for presenting findings to management and business
- Assist in identifying, prioritising and delivering on key business opportunities where improved insights and advanced analytics can drive bottom line value.
- Drive buy-in for analytical decision making and advanced analytics.
- Effective partnering with all stakeholders to identify the business requirements and the expected outcome. Collaborating with Cluster Heads, Product Champions and relevant teams to select the relevant sources of information for analysis, reporting and solution design.
- Quantifying the accuracy of metrics for the analysis and presenting and depicting the rationale of the findings in easy to understand terms for business. Supporting the design and delivery of the right infrastructure (databases, BI tools, modelling software) to support the analytics agenda. Develop data science solutions. This includes the use of Machine learning, Cloud technologies and API’s.
- Maintain existing solutions and retrain models where required.
- Migrate existing on prem solutions to the cloud. Drive business value by identifying business opportunities where data science can provide solutions. Build required data structures and reports to track model usage and stability.
- Partner and work closely with business to help understand the value analytics and data science can play in their environments.
- Perform any other duties necessary for the operational effectiveness of the company, as required within your ability and scope.
Requirements
- Matric.
- Bsc (Science, Maths, Statistics), Engineering, Computer Science.
- Data Science specific degree.
- Minimum 4-6 years related experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in analytics (big data, database mining, statistical, modelling and programming knowledge, test and learn).
- Experience in database analytical tools and statistical packages.
- Experience in Classification models, Anomoly detection, Regression and Neural nets.
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Experience in Python, SQL server, Powerbi, Excel, Powerpoint, Azure will be advantageous.
- Understanding of API’s in Python. Excellent facilitation and thought leadership skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong project management and delivery skills.
