Sagen Advisory Recruitment Company is seeking a seasoned Senior Bookkeeper with a minimum of 5 years of experience to join our client’s dynamic educational development company based in Century City.
As the Senior Bookkeeper for our group of pre-primary schools, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with all accounting regulations. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, and payroll processing while providing guidance and support to junior bookkeeping staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Recordkeeping
- Maintain and manage accurate financial records for all pre-primary schools within the group, including ledgers, journals, and financial statements.
- Reconcile bank statements and verify discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure all transactions are recorded in compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and vendors.
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
- Payroll Management
- Process payrolls for all employees accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and labour laws.
- Maintain employee records and manage related documentation.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for review by management.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and monitor expenditure against budget.
- Audit Preparation
- Assist with preparing for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and supporting information.
- Address audit inquiries and implement recommendations for process improvements.
- Team Support and Oversight
- Supervise and guide junior bookkeeping staff, ensuring they follow best practices and assist in their professional development.
- Collaborate with the finance team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Compliance and Best Practices
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and policies.
- Stay updated with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations that may impact the organization.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in an educational setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software e.g., Xero, Dext, Syft, Sage, and Microsoft Office Suite as well as Google Workspace
- Certifications: Relevant certifications e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, CPA.

Working Conditions:
- This position may require occasional overtime during peak financial periods, such as month-end and year-end closing.
- The role is office-based.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be fully literate in English and Afrikaans
- Live close to, or within a 25km radius of Century City, Western Cape.
- Reliable transport to Century City, Western Cape
Salary: R25 000 - R30 000 per month depending on qualifications and experience.
