Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and a passion for accuracy and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for lending operations.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyse financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Generate regular financial reports for management to support decision-making.
- Assist with month end closure.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and lending industry standards.
- Assist in preparing documentation for external audits.
Loan Portfolio Management:
- Monitor and track loans and their associated interest income, ensuring accuracy in loan accounting.
- Calculate and record provisions for loan losses and assess the adequacy of loan reserves.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Participate in the development of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
- Analyse budget variances and provide recommendations for cost control.
Taxation:
- Prepare tax returns (VAT & PAYE).
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis to assess the company's financial performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in financial modelling for new lending products and business initiatives.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements.
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
- Accounting/Finance degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar roles.
- Ability to create logical and thorough financial reports.
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably Xero.
- MS Excel Advanced (Non-negotiable)
