Responsibilities
- Portfolio Analysis: Continuously monitor and assess portfolio results to guide pricing strategies and make adjustments as necessary to meet business goals.
- Pricing Tools Management: Manage all pricing tools, including budgeting, contracting, implementation, and compliance with best practices.
- Cross-Functional Support: Partner with teams in Finance, Reserving, Claims, Risk, and other business units to provide pricing expertise and support strategic decisions.
- Strategic Planning Implementation: Translate organisational goals into actionable pricing strategies and ensure alignment with actuarial standards.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a pricing team of approximately 10 members, ensuring high performance and goal achievement.
- Pricing Management: Oversee the pricing of short-term insurance products, including Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Marine, Engineering, and Hospitality.
- Actuarial Support: Provide actuarial insights and advice to support strategic business decisions and drive profitability.
- Advanced Analytics: Utilize statistical techniques to predict outcomes, assess alternative strategies, and drive informed decision-making across business units.
- Develop Best Practices: Create and implement pricing best practices, systems, and procedures to enhance efficiency and alignment with industry standards.
- Data Quality Management: Oversee the quality and flow of data critical to pricing decisions and reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams such as Broker Distribution and Underwriting to achieve financial targets.
- Performance Reporting: Generate and maintain business reports to monitor profitability, identify market opportunities, and support profitability review discussions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in short-term insurance pricing, including modelling, deployment, and offering actuarial advice.
- 5+ years in a general management role, with a proven track record in leading teams.
- FASSA qualification (Actuarial Society of South Africa) or equivalent international certification is preferred.
- Minimum NQF Level 7 (Bachelor's Degree) in Actuarial Science or related field.
- Strong understanding of insurance industry practices, including underwriting, policy lifecycle, economic trends, regulatory requirements, and IT governance.
- Advanced proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, VBA) and actuarial pricing tools.
- Expertise in financial analysis, portfolio management, and application of actuarial models to business scenarios.
- Experience managing large IT development projects and implementing strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis, drive data and analytics initiatives, and devise practical solutions to enhance pricing processes.
- Effective communicator with the ability to convey complex actuarial concepts to various audiences and build relationships across functions.
