Job Summary
Role Purpose
The Practice/Finance Manager role in Bellville Cape Town, safeguards service quality, regulatory compliance and commercial performance by orchestrating people, systems and processes across the Audit, Accounting and Tax divisions. Working closely with the partners, the Practice Manager drives client?experience initiatives, keeps the engine room of the practice running smoothly, and supplies management with timely insight for informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Lifecycle & Experience Own the client journey from first enquiry to exit: coordinate seamless onboarding, keep communication channels warm, monitor ongoing service levels, and gather feedback that feeds continuous improvement.
- Financial & Practice Administration Safeguard the firm’s cashflow and profitability by overseeing WIP, billing, collections, credit-note approvals, staff charge-out rates, and invoice-leakage reviews, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial processing.
- People & Training Management Act as the operational HR partner: drive recruitment logistics, inductions, study-leave and overtime registers, trainee progress reviews, performance-appraisal cycles and exit interviews, while maintaining complete training-officer files and FASSET/learnership documentation.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance Maintain a robust System of Quality Management (ISQM 1), manage IRBA/SAICA independence and annual declarations, track regulatory changes, prepare for inspections, and keep firm policies current.
- Systems & Operational Efficiency Administer GreatSoft, CaseWare, eDocs and related platforms, manage licences and databases, and champion process optimisation projects to keep the practice running at peak efficiency.
- Lead staff management, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and team development.
- Office & Asset Administration Oversee procurement, design internal forms, minute key meetings, maintain the communication register and fixed-asset register, and monitor workflow queues to remove bottlenecks.
- Management Reporting & Insights Compile monthly management-pack reports, analyse budget-versus-actual performance, track utilisation and recovery metrics, and deliver actionable insights to the partners.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential Qualified CA(SA), AGA(SA) or Professional Accountant (SA)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a professional-services environment (audit, accounting, tax, legal or consulting).
- Desirable Exposure to SAICA Training Office or IRBA-registered audit practice.
- Prior responsibility for SQM/ISQM 1.
Remuneration:
- R35,000 – R50,000 per month, negotiable depending on experience.
- Discretionary bi-annual performance-based bonus.
