Job Summary
Job duties & responsibilities: If you have a GCC (mines and works) then you will hold the legal appointment in terms of Section 2.13.1 of the MHSA, taking responsibility for the safety and legality of all electrical work on site. Ensure that all electrical installations, modifications, and maintenance work comply with MHSA regulations, national standards, and company safety policies. Conduct regular inspections and audits of electrical systems to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Oversee the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment for the project. Ensure that electrical designs and installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and operational requirements. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical systems into the overall project design. Manage and supervise electrical contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure timely and quality delivery of electrical works. Develop and maintain detailed electrical project plans, schedules, and budgets. Address and resolve any electrical-related issues or challenges that arise during construction and commissioning. Implement and oversee quality control procedures for all electrical installations and systems. Conduct inspections, testing, and verification to ensure that all electrical work meets quality and safety standards. Prepare and review electrical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and compliance certificates. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with electrical work, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place. Conduct risk assessments and safety audits for electrical systems and installations. Provide guidance and training to project staff on electrical safety practices and procedures. Maintain accurate records of electrical designs, installations, inspections, and maintenance activities. Prepare and submit regular reports on electrical work progress, safety compliance, and any issues or changes. Ensure proper documentation of all electrical work for future reference and regulatory audits. Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical-related queries and coordination with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders. Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project execution and compliance. Participate in emergency response planning and provide support in the event of electrical emergencies or incidents. Conduct investigations and prepare reports on electrical incidents or accidents, implementing corrective actions as needed. Any ad hoc tasks as requested by Management. Education and Experience: National Diploma / Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering or related qualification Professional Registration will be preferred GCC (Mines and Works) will be preferred At least 8 years of experience within mining, specifically mineral processing industry. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Mining Safety Act
