Job Summary
Hire Resolve's Client is seeking an experienced Assistant Employer’s Agent’s Representative / Assistant Resident Engineer in Structures to join their team in Cape Town for a period of 36 months, starting in August.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee construction progress according to the approved programme and report to the Resident Engineer (RE)
- Implement the Engineer’s quality control plan
- Inspect works, monitor quality, arrange acceptance control testing, prepare statistical reports of test results, and approve/reject work
- Measure and certify completed work progressively and update final work estimates
- Monitor, measure, and ensure quality acceptance control for setting out structures, excavation for foundations, substructures, superstructures, reinforcement, concrete strengths, and finishes
- Assist the RE with issuing site instructions and ensuring work adheres to construction drawings
- Verify the Contractor’s daily site diary and maintain construction progress photographs
- Aid in the preparation of variation orders and dayworks
- Assist in preparing expenditure reports and estimating costs for new work
- Monitor and report on the Contractor’s CPG commitments
- Attend site progress, technical meetings, and other related meetings, and assist with minute preparation
- Monitor the Contractor’s compliance with the OH&S Act
- Assist the RE with handling contractual claims
- Compile as-built data and drawings per the Client’s requirements
- Help prepare the contract completion report and perform the completion inspection
- Provide any additional assistance to the RE as needed
Requirements:
- BTech or ND in Civil Engineerin
- Registration with ECSA as Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng is advantageous, though not mandatory for this project.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in construction and site supervision, particularly on road projects
- Experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer on roads, bridges, and civil engineering projects
- Familiarity with Conditions of Contract (GCC 2015) is beneficial
- Knowledge of specifications and Bill of Quantities (COLTO / COTO, SANS 1200, project-specific, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective client relations skills
- Experience with City of Cape Town projects is a plus
