Mining Surveyor

Job Summary
Key Responsibilities

1. Surveying & Mapping
  • Conduct detailed surveys of mining sites using GPS, total stations, and laser scanning equipment.
  • Prepare and update mine plans, maps, and models.
  • Ensure compliance with legal boundaries and mine regulations.
2. Mine Planning & Development
  • Provide accurate survey data to assist engineers and geologists in mine design.
  • Monitor mine excavation progress and compare it with design specifications.
  • Identify potential hazards such as unstable ground or geological faults.
3. Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Process and interpret survey data using GIS and CAD software.
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, and plans for management and regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain detailed records of survey work for audits and compliance.
4. Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in risk assessments and hazard identification related to mining operations.
  • Provide guidance on safe mining limits and structural stability.
5. Technology & Equipment Management
  • Operate and maintain surveying instruments, drones, and laser scanners.
  • Implement new surveying technologies for improved efficiency and accuracy.
Skills & Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mining Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
Certifications:
  • Professional surveyor license, Mine Safety Certifications.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in surveying tools (GPS, total station, laser scanners).
  • Experience with GIS, CAD, and mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, AutoCAD).
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of mining laws and regulations.
Work Environment
  • Work is often conducted in remote mining locations.
  • Exposure to harsh weather conditions, dust, and noise.
  • Combination of office work (data processing, reporting) and fieldwork (site measurements).
